In the Viking Age, bone and antler carvers were skilled craftsmen who made everyday objects as well as richly decorated things for upscale needs. Combs, needles, spindle whorls, knife handles, game pieces, flutes and small containers were made in their workshops. As raw material they used red deer and reindeer antlers, moose shovels, but also bones from swans, wild and domestic animals.
