Following the Potter’s Wheel Conference in November, we will have a potter’s chat open to anybody. Discussion is open about any pottery related subject, wheel throwing, clays, ethnography, but also pottery trade, using ceramics, breakage and their archaeology.

The CTR conference is moving online - and participation/registration is now FREE! Textiles, tools, sciences, archaeology, history, fashion....You have until the end of this month to send us your abstract at ctr@hum.ku.dk.

Burials are particularly significant findings for archaeologists. Although it may sound contradictory at first, graves, but also the deceased themselves, provide experts with a great deal of information about life long ago.

Frustration. Uncertainty. Anger. Heartache. 2020 has given us much. We’ve also been harshly reminded that climate change is upon us, that politicians equivocate, that people have opinions, and that murder hornets are a thing. Our industry has been hit particularly hard. Many of us have been let go.

More than 30 professional and amateur companies of historical spectacles take part, divided into several categories: music, dance and song; theater and street performance; animal training and show; crafts and demonstrations; military art; various activities and services; technique and accessories; living history sites.

Autumn is uncomfortable and dark? We show that there is another way! We brighten up this evening with self-made, colorful lanterns. The lantern procession goes through the entire open-air museum, which is romantically illuminated by torchlight. If you want, try out your Halloween costume. Fairytale stories about chestnuts, told comfortably around the campfire, round off the day.

For historical-archaeological brewers, we gather for our monthly chat. It is open access and will include links and discussion about craft brewing - you decide what will be on the table! The chat starts at 15:00h CET (Amsterdam time) and may take about 1.5 hours.

From Cave Painting to Graffiti

What does cave painting have in common with modern graffiti pictures in public spaces? What methods and materials did the ice age artists use? Why were the pictures created then and are they created today? Try to create your own picture with earth colors and the simplest tools!

We live in crazy times and we can not meet and make living interpretation. Many museums and freelancers are bleeding and are affected by the Corona-pandemic.
