This weekend you will experience what it is like to live in the Napoleonic era. A grand camp, the life back then with special demonstrations. Exercises are carried out, soldiers are paid out, troops are inspected and preparations are made for people to go home. There are also various shooting demonstrations with both muskets and cannons.

At historical sites and in the presence of historical objects, the only dimension which separates us from the the stories and the people connected with them is the 4th Dimension, Time. Live interpretation is arguably the best way of bridging that dimensional distance. We talk about ‘Bringing the Past To Life’ or ‘Going back in Time’. Visitors often cite ‘time travel’ as a motive for visiting.

An interdisciplinary conference on the transformative power of fire.

Fire always leaves its mark and a wealth of information behind. Our aim is to bring together research on experimental archaeology, archaeomaterials, archaeobotany, anthracology, pyrotechnology, taphonomic investigations including burned bone, combustion features, or accidental burning. 

Recent discussions about health, food safety and an awareness of vanishing traditions have resulted in an increasing interest in traditional foods and food heritage.

Nowadays, death is pretty much excluded from daily life. Until only a few generations ago, however, death and dying as a natural process were highly visible throughout society, and ever-present at every stage of people’s biography: Young mothers could die in childbirth, out of a large flock of siblings, only some would grow up to be adults. Life expectancy was generally lower than it is today.
